In our intrepid search for the best Samsung Galaxy S4 deal, we found that the best network deal comes from Three. You can get the phone on a £35 contract with a £50 one-off fee.

The HTC One is available for ever-so-slightly less cash on the same tariff, which gets you 5000 texts, 500 minutes and unlimited data. Rather than £35 a month, it's £34 a month for the HTC, and a £29 one-off cost rather than £49.

This sort of small margin is seen across the deals range. The HTC One is slightly, slightly cheaper. It'll work out at about £40-60 over the course of your contract.

I think these are the two best smartphones you can buy right now. Not just the two best Android phones, but the two best smartphones. Neither is perfect, but the nice thing is that their strengths and weaknesses are pretty clear.
